Lashana Lynch 'in talks to join Netflix Matilda musical film'

Lashana Lynch is reportedly in talks to join Netflix’s Matilda musical movie as Miss Honey – and we’re definitely on board.

The No Time To Die star is said to be in final negotiations to star in the upcoming adaptation from the streaming giant.

She’s set to star as Matilda’s loving teacher Miss Honey, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the role originally being played by Embeth Davidtz in the 1996 flick.

The new movie is set to be based on the musical adaptation of the Roald Dahl story, with the stage director Matthew Warchus also helming the Netflix version.

The film is reportedly set to have a full theatrical and home video run in the UK before being available for streaming all over the world, according to sources.

Dahl’s story follows a young bookworm who discovers she has telekinetic powers after being mistreated by her parents.

The 1996 adaptation became an instant classic, starring the likes of Mara Wilson as Matilda, Danny DeVito as her father, Rhea Perlman as her mother, and Pam Ferris as terrifying headmistress Agatha Trunchbull.

Although it’s been more than 20 years since the release of the movie, it still has plenty of fans – and they were delighted when Miss Honey star Embeth made an appearance on TikTok with her daughter recently.

Her daughter Charlotte Sloane shared a video where she ‘duetted’ with a fan of the 1996 movie, which has been dubbed a ‘queer classic’.

A fan shared a video of herself with the caption: ‘My mum to me when I was younger: Why do you keep watching Matilda over and over again??’

As the song in the background (Accidentally In Love by Counting Crows) plays the lyrics: ‘I don’t know, well maybe I’m in love’, photos of Miss Honey pop up on the screen… just as the real Miss Honey pops up next to Charlotte.

What a queen.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Lashana Lynch and Netflix for comment.

Netflix’s Matilda adaptation doesn’t yet have a release date.
