Lizzo has said she is ‘honoured’ to be Bonnaroo festival’s first female headliner as the event was cancelled for a second year running after Hurricane Ida.
Lizzo was on the bill for Bonnaroo 2021 alongside the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Foo Fighters and Tyler, the Creator.
The storm left the venue in Manchester, Tennessee ‘waterlogged’ forcing organisers to pull the plug with just one day to go.
Ida has since been downgraded to a tropical storm and is still travelling through multiple states since making landfall in Louisiana, cutting out power in more than 1million homes.
The Juice singer took to Instagram in the wake of the news to tell her fans to stay safe as the downpour from Ida continues.
She said: ‘Honoured to be your first female headliner @bonnaroo.
‘Take care of yourselves everyone who is in the path of the storm. Safety first.’
A statement shared from the festival’s social media accounts read: ‘We are absolutely heartbroken to announce that we must cancel Bonnaroo.

‘While this weekend’s weather looks outstanding, currently Centeroo is waterlogged in many areas, the ground is incredibly saturated on our tollbooth paths, and the campgrounds are flooded to the point that we are unable to drive in or park vehicles safely.
‘We have done everything in our power to try to keep the show moving forward, but Mother Nature has dealt us a tremendous amount of rain over the past 24 hours, and we have run out of options to try to make the event happen safely and in a way that lives up to the Bonnaroo experience.
‘Please find ways to safely gather with your Bonnaroo community and continue to radiate positivity during this disappointing time. WE WILL SEE YOU ON THE FARM IN JUNE 2022!’
It added: ‘All tickets purchased through Front Gate Tickets will be refunded in as little as 30 days to the original method of payment.’
Like many live music events, Bonnaroo was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
