Eric Clapton and Van Morrison have teamed up for a new song which criticises lockdown and other pandemic measures.

The musicians, both 75, have released Stand and Deliver, written by Morrison and sung by Clapton.

The song hits out at face masks and says public health guidelines are ‘gonna grind us down until it really hurts’.

‘Do you want to wear these chains until you’re lying in the grave?’ the lyrics read.

‘I don’t want to be a pauper, and I don’t want to be a prince, I just want to do my job, playing the blues for my friends,’ it goes on.

‘Magna Carta, Bill of Rights, the constitution, what’s it worth?

‘You know they’re gonna grind us down, until it really hurts. Is this a sovereign nation, or just a police state? You better look out, people, before it gets too late.’

When Stand and Deliver was released the singer tweeted: ‘Remember, those who are shutting down our economy haven’t missed a paycheck since lockdown began. We are not in this together.’

It is not the first time that Morrison has aired his gripes with the coronavirus guidelines through song.

Remember, those who are shutting down our economy haven’t missed a paycheck since lockdown began. We are not in this together.

The track follows earlier releases Born To Be Free, As I Walked Out and, more bluntly, No More Lockdown.

No More Lockdown includes such lyrics as: ‘No more lockdown, no more government overreach, no more fascist police, disturbing our peace.’

It also hits out at so called ‘Imperial College scientists makin’ up crooked facts.’

In the real world meanwhile, the EU, including France, Germany and Italy, has banned travel from the UK amid concerns over the new mutated Covid strain.

Another 33,364 confirmed cases have been announced in Britain with another 215 deaths, following a record number of cases on Sunday.
