Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle says the band had to be taped into their outfits as their weight changed so often.
The girl group, made up of Nadine, Sarah Harding, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts, had stylists on hand to stick their clothes back together in case they ripped while on they performed on stage.
Nadine said her band mates were ‘in the best shape of their lives’ while on tour and gained weight in their time off.
When it came to performing again the same outfits would be used again which sometimes split at the wrong time.
Speaking to Susannah Constantine on her podcast Wardrobe Malfunction, Nadine was asked if there was ever a time when her Girls Aloud outfits let her down.
Nadine replied: ‘I have had one stage where clothes had ripped, where the thing just gave. This would happen a lot.

‘So you would do tour, you’re in tour shape and you’ve been rehearsing, your dancers are throwing you around, you’re in the shape of your life and you get into the costumes and it’s great.
‘Then you do the tour, and then because your body’s used to the routines you’re enjoying catering, so things are loosening up a bit and the clothes are getting tighter.
‘Then we would take maybe a week or two off and then come back to summer festivals and basically use the same tour costumes. The stylist would just have rolls of gaffer tape just on the side, just knowing whoever’s gonna walk off and turn around or bend over…and the gaffer tape is just out. It’s just stuck together just in an instant.’
Girls Aloud wore many colourful outfits over the years and Nadine called one tin foil nightmare.
She said: ‘Sometimes fan sites will do ’15 years today’ and it’s like, “I should have spent more time getting styled”.
‘There was one video when silver was very big and we were in silver from head to toe. It just ripped all the time.’
The relationship between the Girls Aloud members has been famously fraught since their split in 2013, but Nadine and Kimberley are now back on speaking terms, with lockdown giving them time to ‘reflect’.
