Mandip Gill has explained why she isn’t leaving Doctor Who, saying she is ‘not ready for this journey to end’.
Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole are saying goodbye to the series with this year’s Christmas Special.
Mandip has played Yasmin Khan on the time travelling drama since 2018, and said there was no question of her character leaving alongside Graham O’Brien (played by Bradley) and Ryan Sinclair (played by Tosin).
Telling Radio Times about her reaction to the pair’s exit, Mandip said: ‘We knew it was coming so we’ve had a while to get our heads around it. Brad and Tosin are such big characters, and I’ll really miss them on set.’
Speaking about her own future on the show, Mandip added: ‘I just thought, “I’m not ready for this journey to end.” Why leave something if you’re enjoying it, it’s working and there’s development?’
Mandip added: ‘I don’t know when it will end for me because as a person and as a character, there’s so much more to explore.’
Mandip will be back in action in the Christmas episode Revolution of the Daleks.
Doctor Who fans were recently given a first look at the festive special, which is set to feature the Doctor’s oldest enemy in an epic showdown.
Following a cliffhanger ending to series 12, showrunner Chris Chibnall previously said of the Christmas special: ‘We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger!
‘Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year.’
Revolution of the Daleks will air during the upcoming festive period on BBC One.
