Following the recent unveiling of the nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards, it’s been revealed that the 2021 ceremony will require proof of vaccination.

Earlier this month, it was announced series including WandaVision, Ted Lasso, Bridgerton and The Crown had received nods for the upcoming Emmys, with Disney Plus bagging 71 nominations in total.

Stars including Elizabeth Olsen, Regé-Jean Page and Michaela Coel are up for some of the night’s accolades, with the winners set to be declared in just a couple of months’ time.

The Television Academy has released a statement with further information on the Emmy Awards and the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which will take place the week before.

In the statement, it outlined that the live awards ceremonies ‘will have limited audiences of nominees and their guests only’.

Furthermore, ‘attendees at all four shows will be required to show proof of vaccination for admittance’, it said.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are due to be split across the weekend of Saturday September 11 and Sunday September 12, with awards being distributed from 5pm on Saturday, 1pm on Sunday and 5pm on Sunday at LA time.

An edited version of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will air on Saturday September 18, the day before the 73rd Emmy Awards are held.

Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Netflix had become the first major studio to introduce compulsory Covid-19 vaccinations for actors and key crew members working on productions in the US.

According to the report, Netflix now requires everyone working in ‘zone A’ to receive their vaccinations, which includes performers and also crew members who work in close proximity to them.

At this year’s Emmy Awards, Netflix historical drama The Crown and Star Wars space western The Mandalorian both received the most number of nominations out of all the shows, earning 24 each.

Pose star Mj Rodriguez made history with her nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, becoming the first transgender nominee in a major Emmy Awards acting category.

The 73rd Emmy Awards will air on September 19 on CBC in the US.
