Is there an afterlife? Surviving Death explores the big question (Picture: Netflix)

It’s one of life’s biggest unanswerable questions – what happens to us after we die?

While this question is one that will undoubtedly continue to be asked by human beings for years to come, a new Netflix series hopes to shed further light on the topic.

Surviving Death, based on Leslie Kean’s book of the same name, is a six-part docu-series that explores the phenomenon of death and whether there is indeed an afterlife, as many people believe there to be.

Directed by Ricki Stern, whose previous work includes the 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work and the 2020 mini series Surviving Jeffrey Epstein, Surviving Death features anecdotes from several individuals who have experienced close calls with death.

Some of the stories told in the series even feature people who say they actually experienced death and lived to tell the tale.

In the trailer for the show, a voiceover states: ‘The question of what happens after we die has intrigued humans for as long as we’ve been around.’

At one point, a physician says that in their experience, ‘people don’t often think about death really until they’re forced to’.

At the very end of the trailer, an interviewee who seems to have had an unusual experience with death states: ‘I think I’ll be asking questions till the day I die. Again.’

The series consists of six episodes in total, the first of which is titled ‘Near Death Experiences’.

The programme also features episodes focusing on subjects including mediums and reincarnation, with one episode named ‘Seeing Dead People’.

In the description for Surviving Death on Netflix, the streaming platform says that it will take viewers ‘on an extraordinary journey into a world beyond human existence as we know it’.

‘What does it mean to die, and is death the end of our existence?’ the synopsis states.

‘Weaving together innovative new research with firsthand accounts from those who’ve been close to – and even experienced – death, this series takes viewers on an extraordinary journey into a world beyond human existence as we know it.’

Consider us intrigued!

Surviving Death is available to watch on Netflix.
