The Bay fans are counting down the hours as the first episode makes its debut on ITV, and fans will see a new face in the drama.
It was confirmed in February 2021 that Morven Christie will not be returning as Lisa Armstrong, and the decision was her own.
Series creator Daragh Carville told Metro.co.uk that Lisa ‘made a huge contribution to the success of the show’.
‘She’s absolutely at the heart of what it is and she’s been amazing,’ he said.
‘I’ve loved writing for her and I’ve loved the character of Lisa. So I’m really sad to see her go. Morven’s going to go on to conquer the world and do fantastic things because she’s brilliant, but I’m really excited to be writing for the new character.’
Here’s everything you need to know.
Who plays DS Jenn Townsend?

Actress Marsha Thomason stars as the new lead DS Jenn Townsend, a family liaison officer, who struggles to balance the pressures of work and her home life.
The 45-year-old actress is no stranger to the crime genre, as she previously starred alongside Matt Bomer in the police procedural series White Collar, where she played special agent Diana Berrigan.
She has also been in a number of award-winning shows including Cobra, The Good Doctor, and Lost.
However, The Bay marks Marsha’s first lead role in a British series after making her name for herself in the US.
‘I was definitely aware that those are big shoes to fill, [Morven] was so great as Lisa,’ she told Digital Spy.
‘I was a bit like Jenn really because it’s like “new day, new job” with these people who’ve all been working together for ages, but everybody was brilliant.’
Reprising their roles from the cast are Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, Thomas Law, and Andrew Dowbiggin.
According to the synopsis, DS Townsend is ‘immediately thrown into the deep end when a body is found in the bay on her first day in the job.
‘She must get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer.
‘While she’s eager to give the family answers, she also needs to prove herself as the team’s newest recruit.’
The Bay returns with the new series on Wednesday, January 12 at 9pm.
