The Voice UK: Virtual audience member sends message to Sir Tom Jones

The Voice UK is different in many ways this year – including not having a live studio audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, despite the major changes, that hasn’t stopped bosses from putting on a great show.

The changes mean that viewers don’t get to miss out on watching the live auditions, only this time they can sit in the comfort of their own homes.

While the judges Will.i.am, Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and Anne Marie battle it out over picking their favourite singers, the audience gets to watch the blind auditions virtually through a screen.

During tonight’s instalment, one audience member decides to send a special message just for Sir Tom.

Holding a piece of paper up to the screen, the message reads (backwards): ‘Has Tom got TikTok?’

‘Have you got TikTok Tom?’ Olly quizzed.

‘Yeh…’ Sir Tom replied.

‘Right here,’ he continued as he pointed to his watch.’

To which Will.i.am laughed: ‘That’s a good one.’

Another difference to the talent show this year is that the judges and host Emma Willis can’t hug the contestants.

Speaking about the restrictions and rules in place, Olly told us: ‘As a show, it’s different and it’s a little bit strange, but we’re just learning how to cope with it all and make sure everyone is safe and we do the best possible show we can, That’s all we can do, really.

‘ITV has got this amazing wrap-around screen, so we’re able to zoom in and chat to different people on the screen at different points. It was really, really fun.

‘I think all us coaches were saying it was really nice to see the real fans in their lounges at home, watching the show. It was kind of surreal really.’

The Voice continues on ITV on Saturdays at 8.30pm.
