New data shows we want to start dressing like the characters in Bridgerton

If you haven’t watched the entire series of Bridgerton yet, where have you been?

But new data from eBay shows that we not only love the hit Netflix show but also want to bring it onto our daily lives – including our wardrobes, hobbies and homes.

Data shows that since the series aired on December 25, searches for ‘pale blue dress’ (as worn by Daphne Bridgerton) and ‘yellow dress’ (as seen on Penelope Featherstone) have been on the rise. In fact, there’s been 2201% more searches in total for the brighter styles.

What’s more, it looks like Regency-era fashion has been at the forefront of people’s minds, as eBay has seen a 39% increase in searches for ‘corset’, along with a 25% rise in ‘headband’ searches and 37% more searches for ‘lace tops.’

In addition, ‘puff sleeve dress’ is up by 26% and 34% more people have been hunting for ‘crystal earrings’ – so we could be seeing a whole lot more Bridgerton-esque outfits in 2021.

And with more of us looking for hobbies to entertain us during this third lockdown, it seems we’re turning to the Bridgerton characters for inspiration.

Data suggests that searches for embroidery hoops are up by 65%, while 20% more people are browsing pianos.

Homeware is also another area that’s getting a Bridgerton revamp. Searches for ‘wisteria’ plants are up by a staggering 300% and there’s also been a 28% rise in ‘antique chairs’ and a 16% increase in searches for ‘plinth’ – so some people are very committed.

Priyanka Patel, eBay’s senior trading manager said: ‘Inspired by Bridgerton, we’re seeing shoppers embrace trends of the 19th century, with an uptake in fashion looks such as corsets and puff sleeves and a turn to more traditional hobbies, which include afternoon tea and sewing.’
