Meghan and Harry latest - Couple QUIT royal duties for good and 'belittled' family with statement that 'lacked love'

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have officially quit the Royal Family following their 12-month Megxit review, Buckingham Palace announced.

Both parties released a statement on the development, and royal author Phil Dampier said the Sussexes’ statement “belittled the royal family” and “lacked love”.

Phil, author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan In Their Own Words, told Fabulous: “Harry and Meghan’s statement seemed to lack any love or compassion, which is very sad.

“While the Queen wants to leave the door open and generously hasn’t stripped them of their royal titles, they have given nothing in return.

“The tone of Harry and Meghan’s press release is quite pointed.

“By saying ‘we can all live a life of service – service is universal,’ they are belittling the work of the Queen and the rest of the royal family.”

Follow our Harry and Meghan live blog below for the very latest news and gossip about the royal couple…

  • PRIVACY-LOVING HARRY AND MEGHAN WILL ‘ONLY TALK ON THEIR TERMS’

Writing for The Express, Judy Finnigan blasted Harry and Meghan over their upcoming tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She wrote: “So, the couple who left the UK because they wanted privacy will talk, but only on their terms. They will talk, but not to us.

“Not to the British public who loved Harry, worried about him, were thrilled when he married Meghan, so chuffed when he had his little son. He has totally rejected us.”

Describing the Duke as a “spoiled Prince who thinks he can have it all”, Judy continued: “As he discovered yesterday, he can’t. You’re not a Prince without a country, just a rich playboy with a Netflix contract. If he ever comes back home, I fear he’s in for a nasty shock.”

  • ARCHIE ‘LOVES ZOOM CALLS WITH ROYAL FAMILY’

It’s been over a year since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were last in the UK.

And in that time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been staying in touch with loved ones over Zoom.

Omid Scobie – who co-authored the bombshell biography Finding Freedom – claims the couple’s one-year-old son Archie has been “loving” the virtual catch-ups with his family across the pond.

Speaking to Ok! magazine, Omid said: “Archie loves being on Zoom calls with the family and the Queen has been enjoying those throughout lockdown.”

  • PRINCE HARRY ‘URGENTLY PUSHED MEGXIT TALKS’

According to the Daily Mail, the Duke of Sussex pushed to restart talks over his and Meghan’s royal position earlier this year.

An insider told the paper there was a “puzzling sense of urgency” to his requests to get talks over the line which reportedly confused officials at Buckingham Palace.

But when the news of Meghan’s “tell all” interview with Oprah Winfrey broke earlier this week it “all became clear”, the source added.

The move was seen as “shocking” by the royal household who had hoped to make a joint statement about the Duke and Duchess’ future earlier this week, the Mail reports.

  • ROYAL FAMILY TOLD TO ‘HIDE BEHIND SOFA’ FOR MEGHAN’S OPRAH INTERVIEW

An “intimate” interview with the Duchess was filmed on Tuesday — the same day the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, was taken to the hospital with an illness on Tuesday and is expected to remain there for several more days.

It was filmed in the Californian enclave where Harry and Meghan are neighbours of 67-year-old Oprah Winfrey reports the Times.

The couple will attempt to have the final say on Mexit with Winfrey.

But a royal source said: “Time to hide behind the sofa at the palace.

“Oprah is skilled at getting people to talk about their feelings and bound to take them down a path they’ll almost certainly regret.

“There will be an element of reliving Megxit and airing their grievances. No one benefits from that, but Oprah will get it out of them whether they like it or not.”

  • MEGHAN’S CO-STAR PATRICK J. ADAMS OPENS UP ABOUT THEIR ‘CLOSE RELATIONSHIP’

Before she married into the Royal Family, Meghan Markle was best known for her role as paralegal Rachel Zane in the hit US legal drama Suits.

Rachel’s love interest in the show Mike was played by Patrick J. Adams – who attended the Royal Wedding in April 2018 with his wife Troian Bellisario.

Discussing his relationship with Meghan, Patrick told the Hollywood Reporter in 2018: “In some ways, Meghan and I were the closest because we were the youngest people in the cast and both came in with the least experience.

“We grew up together over the course of the show.”

  • PRINCE HARRY IS DEVELOPING AMERICAN ACCENT LIKE MEGHAN’S, EXPERT CLAIMS

Jennifer Dorman, expert sociolinguist at language learning app Babbel, analysed Archewell Audio’s first podcast and claimed Harry is starting to mimic his wife’s voice.

She told Cosmopolitan: “The expression ‘You guys’ comes up, an American phrase that Harry used to address listeners in both the podcast teaser and during the podcast.

“In the premiere episode, he even uses the typically American term ‘awesome’ – something which elicits a giggle from his American wife when used.

“Harry says things like ‘love always wins’ and ‘the power within us’: two very positive, uplifting phrases which many of us would associate with the optimistic attitude of our cousins over the pond.”

Although Jennifer suggests Harry could be using these phrases to “be understood better by the American press”, she also claims his language has been influenced by how much time he is spending with his wife.

  • MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY’S EXIT FROM ROYAL FAMILY LABELLED ‘HORRIBLY DISRESPECTFUL’

A royal source claimed the Duke and Duchess can’t ‘line their pockets’ while undertaking royal duties as a war of words with Buckingham Palace escalated last night.

An insider told the Mail: “You can’t line your pockets while undertaking official duties.”

And another source claimed it was “unconscionable” of the Sussexes to have had the last word, after the pair hit back at the Queen after she stripped them of their Royal titles.

A statement released by the Palace said The Queen wrote to say that it is “not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service”.

But Harry and Meghan hit back and said: “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

  • THE PALACE WAS ‘CAUGHT OFF GUARD’ BY MEGHAN AND HARRY’S BABY NEWS

Sharing the news with a sweet black and white pic of the couple sitting together under a tree, Meghan and Harry gushed Archie would be a big brother in a statement earlier this week.

Prince Harry’s grandmother the Queen said the entire family was “delighted” with the news.

But it has been claimed the Sussexes had not informed Buckingham Palace staff that they would announce the baby news.

The Daily Mail reported officials were caught “off guard” and they didn’t have a statement prepared.

In a short statement last night, Buckingham Palace said: “Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family are delighted and wish them well.”

  • THE QUEEN ‘TOLD HARRY “THE MONARCHY DOESN’T WORK FOR YOU”‘

According to Daily Mail, the Queen told her grandson Prince Harry that his lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix meant he could no longer be an impartial working royal.

An insider told the publication that Her Majesty said to the Duke of Sussex: “You work for the monarchy, the monarchy doesn’t work for you.”

A source claimed: “The Queen has been very clear from the start that this ‘half in, half out’ model demanded by the Sussexes wouldn’t work and hasn’t deviated from that. Not once.

“Their original idea was to have a ‘third way’ of being a royal. And the Queen has said quite simply ‘no, you can’t.'”

  • MEGHAN AND HARRY WANTED TO BE ‘HALF-IN, HALF-OUT’ OF THE MONARCHY, EXPERT CLAIMS

Writing for Town & Country, royal correspondent Victoria Murphy claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to be “half-in, half-out” the monarchy.

Commenting on yesterday’s announcement which saw Meghan and Harry stripped of their patronages, Victoria wrote: “It was hard to see a way Harry could have kept his honorary military appointments without a formal role in the royal family, although it was also obvious that he very much wanted to.

“The Sussexes had long hoped to be half-in and half-out but, as the Queen wrote to them, this is simply ‘not possible.'”

In a Buckingham Palace statement, it was revealed that the couple’s patronages have been returned to the Queen and will be redistributed among other members of the Royal Family.

  • MEGHAN AND HARRY’S STATEMENT EXPOSES ROYAL FAMILY’S ‘WOUNDS’

Yesterday it was confirmed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would NOT be returning as working members of the Royal Family.

A Buckingham Palace statement read: “Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”

Following on from this, the Duke and Duchess hit back with their own statement which said: “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

A source told the Mirror that the comment “clearly demonstrates the deep wounds of the past remain for at least one side”.

They added: “When all is said and done the Queen has a great deal of love and admiration for the pair of them and that will not change, but it must be said, the tone of their statement was a little abrupt.”

  • MEGHAN EXPECTING SECOND BABY AT ‘END OF SPRING’, INSIDER CLAIMS

Speaking to US Weekly, a source claimed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are “over the moon” that they will soon become parents for a second time.

The insider claimed: “Harry and Meghan have always wanted a couple of kids — a little brother or sister for Archie, and they’re excitedly planning for the arrival of their bundle of joy. It’s a dream come true.

“Meghan fell pregnant again toward the end of last year. The baby is due at the end of spring.”

This year, Spring begins on the 20 March and ends on 21 June.

  • MEGHAN AND HARRY’S INDEPENDENT WORK WAS A ‘DEAL-BREAKER’ FOR THE QUEEN

Appearing on the Heirpod podcast, Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie claimed The Queen stripped Harry and Meghan of their patronages as a result of their lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix.

He explained: “As much as Harry and Meghan had hoped to continue their work with as many of these organisations as possible, [they have] a portfolio of independence in diverse which includes production deals with Netflix and Spotify.

“And of course setting up their Archewell foundation, a non-profit alongside it.

“They are all ended up being deal breakers for the Queen and senior aides involved in the discussion.”

  • HOW MEGHAN AND OPRAH ‘ANGERED THE PALACE’

Meghan Markle has reportedly agreed to do an explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey and speak openly about Megxit for the first time.

It comes after the Duchess allegedly “angered the Palace” by getting her A-List pal to flog her coffee investment on Instagram in December.

The Duchess has reportedly started “building a portfolio of startup investments” – and sent her A-list pal Oprah Winfrey a package of coffee samples to try last year.

A royal source told The Mirror: “When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to step back as senior royals in order to become financially independent it was always going to be a balancing act.

“But what is clear are the promises made at the time to uphold the values of Her Majesty and the Crown, that neither party should be trading on their royal connections to benefit financially or risk bringing the Crown into disrepute.”

  • WHY MEGHAN AND HARRY’S SECOND BABY WILL MAKE HISTORY

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made history when quit the Royal Family in January 2020 – and their second child is set to be a trailblazer too.

Speaking to Sky News, royal expert Rhiannon Mills explained how the Duke and Duchess’ baby will be the first of The Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born overseas.

She said: “I think it is worth saying that what is going to be interesting about their new child is that this will actually be the first of the Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born abroad, which is an interesting fact in itself.

“Also, when you consider that Princess Eugenie has also had a baby this week, which was the Queen’s ninth great-grandchild, so Harry and Meghan are going to have her tenth.”

  • ROYAL FURY OVER MEGHAN AND HARRY’S ‘DISRESPECTFUL EXIT’

Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the Royal family has been slammed as “horribly disrespectful” by palace insiders.

A royal source claimed the Duke and Duchess can’t ‘line their pockets’ while undertaking royal duties as a war of words with Buckingham Palace escalated last night.

The move sparked fury last night as palace sources told the Daily Mail the manner of the Sussexes’ exit from Royal life had been “disrespectful”.

An insider told the Mail: “You can’t line your pockets while undertaking official duties.”

And another source claimed it was “unconscionable” of the Sussexes to have had the last word, after the pair hit back at the Queen after she stripped them of their Royal titles.

  • MEGHAN MARKLE HAD TO ‘REINVENT HERSELF’ BEFORE MARRYING INTO ROYAL FAMILY

Before she married into the Royal Family, Meghan Markle was most famous for her role in Suits.

Speaking ahead of the Royal Family in 2018, royal expert Victoria Murphy claimed the former actress would have to “reinvent herself”.

The expert said: “She has had a long time to have an independent life to forge her own opinions, and she has very much made a career of promoting herself – of putting herself forward.

“She had an Instagram account, and she’s been very open and outspoken about a lot of things. And these are things that are going to have to change.”

“It does feel like a need for a bit of reinvention really, she is really kind of parking what she’s done before and moving herself into her new role.”

  • KAMALA HARRIS COULD APPEAR ON MEGHAN AND HARRY’S PODCAST, EXPERT PREDICTS

Royal fans could expect to see Vice-President Kamala Harris appear on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell podcast, a royal commentator has claimed.

Writing for The Telegraph, Rosa Silverman predicted Meghan and Kamala will collaborate on future projects – after the Vice-President supported the Duchess on Twitter last year.

A source said: “I think there’s a real feeling of solidarity between the two women.”

Commenting on the prospect of Kamala making an appearance on the podcast, Rosa wrote: “It would serve as a one-off collaboration to discuss and promote some shared aims and interests before Harris becomes too busy to enter into such enterprises with figures like Meghan.

“What not to expect: A whole podcast series, with loads of unscripted jokes.”

  • PRINCESS EUGENIE REVEALS MEANING BEHIND BABY NAME

Buckingham Palace today released an image of Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank with their baby boy, who was born at the Portland Hospital in central London at 8.55am on February 9.

Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy.

“He is named after his great grandfathers and both of his great x5 grandfathers.”

Prince Philip, 99, currently remains at King Edward VII’s hospital, having been admitted on Tuesday evening after feeling unwell.

It is understood the couple chose the name August after Queen Victoria’s consort Prince Albert, who had Augustus as a middle name.

Hawke is a Brooksbank family name, and Philip is in honour of Eugenie’s grandfather and August’s great-grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh.

  • MEGHAN’S £110,000 WEDDING DRESS

Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry took place in Windsor on May 19, 2018 and there was a lot of speculation about her wedding dress beforehand.

Meghan stunned onlookers as she arrived at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in a stunning bespoke gown by Givenchy, created by British designer Clare Waight Keller, which is estimated to cost around £110,000.

Meghan and Clare worked closely together on the design, which featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully framed the shoulders and emphasised Meghan’s slender waist.

It had a 16ft train and veil which was adorned with the flowers of the 53 commonwealth countries, and it took an incredible 3,900 hours over the course of four months to create. It was confirmed she wore Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau, made in 1932.

  • HARRY’S COUSIN PRINCESS EUGENIE NAMES BABY BOY

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have named their baby son August Philip in a touching tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Buckingham Palace today released an image of the couple with their baby boy, who was born at the Portland Hospital in central London at 8.55am on February 9.

Eugenie posted on Instagram: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express.”

In the newly-released picture, the baby boy is wrapped in blue and has his eyes closed as he is held by his beaming father and clutches his mother’s finger.

  • HARRY ‘URGENTLY PUSHED ROYAL EXIT TALKS’ BEFORE MEGHAN’S INTERVIEW WITH OPRAH WAS REVEALED

Harry urgently pushed for Megxit talks before Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey was revealed, an insider has claimed.

  • WHEN IS MEGHAN AND HARRY’S BABY DUE?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting a new addition to their family of three as they announced in a statement on February 14.

The couple said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

It is unclear when or where Meghan will give birth or what the sex of the baby is.

The duchess kept her pregnancy under wraps as her, Harry, and baby Archie have been social distancing in their Santa Barbara, California home.

  • QUEEN WON’T STRIP MEGHAN AND HARRY OF THEIR TITLES DESPITE ‘JIBE’ IN LEAVING STATEMENT

The Queen has no plans to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their titles despite their dig at the Monarch after losing their royal roles, it’s reported.

Meghan and Harry will retain their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex and will remain His and Her Royal Highness.

But they can’t use their HRHs in day-to-day life as they aren’t working members of the Royal Family anymore.

Harry and Meghan were yesterday stripped of their royal roles to complete their Megxit.

  • MEGHAN PLEDGED TO ‘SET STANDARDS HIGH’ WITH NEW YEAR RESOLUTION SHE MADE MONTHS BEFORE MEETING HARRY

Five years ago, the Duchess of Sussex – who was best known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits – vowed to set her “standards high” for the New Year on her lifestyle blog The Tig.

Meghan wrote: “For this new year, the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully.

“To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher.”

In July that year, Meghan was set up with Prince Harry by a mutual friend.

The biography Finding Freedom claims the couple enjoyed their first date at Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse – where they reportedly spoke about making “change for good” while sitting on plush “velvet chairs”.
