A double decker bus driver lost control of his vehicle and started veering down a hill as wintery snowstorms turned Yorkshire’s roads into ice rinks.
A passer-by captured the moment the bus came perilously close to crashing into a nearby car in Elland, near Halifax as heavy snowstorms brought chaos to the region.
The incident occurred on a road called Bank Bottom this morning after several inches of snow fell in the early hours.
A major incident has been declared in Yorkshire because of the significant snow fall, coupled with the pressures of rising numbers of coronavirus patients.
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it made the decision because of the worsening weather conditions and a high volume of 999 calls.
First Group has been contacted for comment about the incident. It is unclear whether there were any passengers aboard the bus at the time.
Earlier the company warned it was experiencing problems across all services because of the weather.
A statement said: ‘We have experienced severe disruption across the network in West and South Yorkshire due to the extreme weather conditions. Many services are suspended and those that are not are experiencing severe delays.
‘Our schedulers are working hard to maintain services, where it is safe to do so, and we will inform customers as soon as possible when any service that has had to be stopped temporarily is resumed.
‘We are making every effort to have some services available later today but these will be very limited. Customers should not start a journey this afternoon and can follow our social media for regular updates.’
The video was posted on Facebook and has already been shared nearly 4,000 times.

One woman commented: ‘Well done that bus driver. I bet the person in that car saw their life flash.’
Another woman added: ‘Yeah. The car driver couldn’t move out of the way because of a van parked nearby he kept slipping into it.’
Conditions across West Yorkshire have been described as some of the worst for years with many major roads affected including the A629 Halifax Road from Ainley Top to Huddersfield town centre.
