A man allegedly shot and killed his wife – who had recently won $2million in lottery money – and one of their children, before turning the gun on himself. John Donato and his wife Tiffani Hill, 31, were found dead in her home in the apparent murder-suicide.
Calera police also found their one-year-old daughter Leanne at the Oklahoma home with serious gunshot wounds on July 30, according to Crime Online. The toddler was airlifted in critical condition to a hospital in Dallas but later died of her injuries.
Hill had won more than $2million when she bought a California Instant Prize Crossword Scratcher in November 2020 and married Donato a few months later.
Lawyer Theresa McGehee, who used to represent the Hill family, told KXII last week that there was no evidence that the lottery money was the cause of Donato’s actions, but said it had caused some ‘conflict’.
‘Could that have sparked that argument? We’ll never have any way of knowing,’ McGehee said. ‘But I do know there were times it caused conflict between them.’
Any money the couple had will be put toward a trust fund for their three surviving children, who are in state custody.
Hill’s family members said that domestic violence was involved in her relationship with Donato and that she had shared with them her plans to leave.
‘Statistically that is the most dangerous time for anyone involved in domestic violence is around that time of separation,’ McGehee said.
Hill’s sister Jamie Kern told NBC 10 that she was ‘such a kind-hearted, beautiful person’.
‘She loved her kids dearly. She would barely let them out of her sight,’ Kern said. ‘Her main goal in this world was to try and make a difference.’
