Dog escapes pet hotel and finds way home while owners are vacationing

The owners of Dexter the dog left him at a pet hotel and went on vacation – only to receive a Ring camera notification that someone was at their door.

‘We were both like, “Oh my god, that’s Dexter!”’ said Jeremy Hensen, who was on holiday in Las Vegas with Sarah Hensen.

The Hensens, from Lenexa, Kansas, had left Dexter at a doggy daycare for a five-day stay. Somehow, Dexter managed to get over a six-foot fence and trotted two miles to get home, and was whining to be let in. The journey likely took Dexter at least 90 minutes.

‘He was bound and determined. Obviously, he didn’t understand the fact that we were gone, he just thought that we were home,’ Jeremy told Inside Edition of the video from earlier this year that has since gone viral.

‘He takes his job protecting us very seriously,’ Jeremy added.

The homesick pup did not know that his parents were more than a thousand miles away.

The couple tried to calm Dexter down by talking to him through the speaker. They then called the doggy hotel staff, who arrived and took the canine back under their care.

Despite the initial shock, the Hensens were not surprised that Dexter broke free and found his way to home.

‘He’s very smart,’ Jeremy said. ‘And that intelligence can get him into trouble sometime.’

Social media users were amused by Dexter’s move.

‘Dexter: so y’all think y’all can go on vacation without me,’ one YouTube user wrote.

Another user commented, ‘Dexter said. F*** this hotel! I’m going home!’
