Donald Trump wants to leave Washington DC on the final morning of his presidency on a red carpet and with a military band serenading him, it is claimed.
The outgoing President of the United States hopes his departure to Florida early on Wednesday morning will have some of the ‘pomp’ he has grown to enjoy during his four years in office, according to The New York Times.
Trump is set to fly to his country club in West Palm Beach, Florida, hours before Joe Biden’s inauguration so he can enjoy one last trip on Air Force One. Plans to host a ‘welcome’ rally on his arrival in Florida have been put on ice after last weeks deadly US Capitol riots Trump now stands accused of inciting.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence has called his successor Kamala Harris to wish her luck, and offer her any assistance. Pence’s civility stands in marked contrast to Trump’s, with the president refusing to call Joe Biden to congratulate him on his win.

Pence and his wife Karen may meet with Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff in Washington DC on Tuesday evening, although security concerns mean their plans remain fluid. Unlike Trump, Pence will attend Biden and Harris’s inauguration as 46th President and Vice President of the United States.
Trump will be the first president to avoid his successor’s inauguration since the 1860s, after repeatedly refusing to concede Biden had won. He has been impeached for encouraging his supporters to descend on the Capitol shortly before the January 6 riots that ended up killing four rioters, as well as a policeman.
An impeachment trial will not begin until after Trump leaves office.
If he is convicted of inciting violence against the US government, Trump will be banned from running from office again, and will lose his government security detail, as well as a taxpayer-funded travel allowance.
