This is the moment a 13 year-old girl fled a supermarket after allegedly stabbing a 15 year-old girl to death inside while being filmed for social media. Regan Broussard was pictured leaving the Walmart in Lake Charles, Louisiana, shortly after she is said to have fatally knifed her victim on Saturday night.
She and her two unnamed friends, aged 14 and 12, are said to have stolen blades from inside the supermarket before attacking their victim. That girl, who has not been named, died in an ambulance while being rushed to hospital shortly afterwards.
Broussard was said to have been ‘out of control’ by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, who said a ‘very disturbing’ video of the murder had been shared to social media. Sheriff Mancuso has since imposed an 11pm – 5am weeknight curfew and midnight – 5am weekend curfew to try and curtail the violence.
He blamed bad parenting afterwards, with Saturday’s murder the third involving children younger than 16. Sheriff Mancuso said: ‘This is not something we can police our way out of. I just don’t feel like this is a police matter. This is a parenting issue.
‘People need to know where their kids are. They need to know what’s going on in their lives. We’re going to take some aggressive steps. This is going to be parish-wide, every city, we’re all going to be on the same page. We’re going to have zero tolerance on curfew violators.’
The sheriff went on to urge parents to keep a close eye on their children’s social media accounts, where he says arguments often begin that ultimately spiral into real-world violence.
Broussard has been charged with second-degree murder, and is being held at a detention facility. It is unclear whether she will be tried as an adult over the murder. Further details on what led up to the stabbing have not been shared.
Her alleged accomplices have been charged with being accessories to second-degree murder.
