A 30 year-old woman smoked spice – then tried to beat her 97 year-old uncle to death with his own cane, police say. Alesha Rogers, 30, faces an attempted murder charge over claims she turned up at the elderly man’s home in Pensacola, Florida, last Thursday before attacking him with the walking stick.
Unidentified eyewitnesses say Rogers showed up at her uncle’s home uninvited. She was then left alone with the elderly man for about an hour, with the same witnesses returning to discover the frail senior citizen had been badly beaten.
He was bleeding profusely from cuts to his head, lips and chest, with blood splattered throughout his home. After being rushed to hospital, the elderly man was also found to have been stabbed, with doctors further discovering that he had suffered a brain bleed.
The man, who was still conscious, told police Rogers had attacked him. She was tracked down by cops, who arrested her on Friday. Investigators subsequently discovered a young girl Rogers was supposed to be caring for left by the side of a road, it is alleged. That prompted additional child neglect charges.
Rogers is accused of smoking synthetic marijuana before attacking her uncle, although no further motive for the beating has been given.
The alleged elder abuser is accused of attacking a nurse while having a medical at the jail she was taken to after being arrested.
Rogers, who also faces a charge of abusing an elderly person, is being held at Escambia County Jail in lieu of $67,500 bond. An update on her alleged victim’s condition has not been given.
