WWE’s NXT lovebirds Leon Ruff and Aja Smith are engaged.
The current North American Champion – who has taken the black and gold brand by storm in recent weeks after upsetting Johnny Gargano and capturing the title – has made this month even sweeter after he popped the question.
Referee Aja revealed the wonderful news on Twitter, sharing a couple of adorable selfies – and a great look at the stunning ring – as she tweeted: ‘I SAID YES! #FutureMrsRuffin (sic)’
Leon retweeted the romantic post for his own followers with love heart emojis, adding: ‘Love of my life… I can’t wait!!! (sic)’
Aja quickly replied: ‘OMG I HAVE A WEDDING TO PLAN’
Leon offered no hint he was planning to propose last week, as he exclusively opened up to Metro.co.uk about their real life wrestling romance.
‘With me and Aja, I’ve known her since I started [wrestling],’ he recalled. ‘It wasn’t until I was doing a school show, it was a big school show event.
‘Me and her were just talking and we went on a date after the show, and it kinda just snowballed from there. We weren’t dating that long, and then she got the email that she was getting signed.’
Leon had no problem moving to Orlando, Florida with Aja as she chased her dream, and this year he has made his own journey to the bright lights of WWE and NXT.
‘I moved to Orlando with her, and it’s really just been us two – especially with the quarantine,’ he said.
‘I feel like if you want to look at the brighter side, you can always find the silver lining in anything. I feel like the silver lining for us in the pandemic is we got to spend a lot of time together. We got to spend a lot of time learning and talking to each other.’
Leon and Aja’s romance comes after he previously admitted fellow WWE superstars Bianca Belair and Street Profits’ Montez Ford were ‘relationship goals’.
‘That’s what I’m looking forward to… I’m a simple guy. I wanted to have a family, a stable job that I can provide with, a wife – and I met Aja,’ he beamed.
‘I saw Montez and Bianca – this is what I want, to me, pure happiness! It was great to see. Now that I am in it, it’s just something that I’m really thankful for.’
