Ossie Ardiles, Gary Mabbutt, Ledley King, Paul Allen, Martin Chivers, Micky Hazard, Glenn Hoddle, Steve Perryman, Michael Dawson and Graham Roberts were all in attendance to pay tribute to the legend.
The 62,000-strong crowd, including both sets of supporters stood up and applauded for a minute to commemorate Greaves.
In 661 appearances as a professional Greaves scored a mind boggling 466 goals, netting on his debut for Chelsea, AC Milan, Spurs AND England.
He is Tottenham’s record scorer, netting 266 goals in 379 appearances between 1961 and 1970 for the North London outfit.
England manager Gareth Southgate paid his respects to the England legend saying: “Jimmy Greaves was someone who was admired by all who love football, regardless of club allegiances.
“I was privileged to be able to meet Jimmy’s family last year at Tottenham Hotspur as the club marked his 80th birthday.
“My thoughts are with them and I know the entire game will mourn his passing.
“Jimmy certainly deserves inclusion in any list of England’s best players, given his status as one of our greatest goalscorers and his part in our 1966 World Cup success.”
England 1966 World Cup hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst also paid tribute to his former team-mate.
Hurst hailed Greaves as the best English forward there ever has been.
He said: “There have been some great players but forwards are judged on goals, and there’s nobody who could touch him.
“I am asked is there any animosity between Jimmy and I, because I took his place? But not for one second.
“You hear the term genius, and it is the one word which applies to Jimmy.”
