Loot focused action role-playing game, Path Of Exile, has released its 37th challenge league, with fans across Reddit complaining about the difficulty spike compared to previous releases.
Developer Grinding Gear Games has taken their community’s advice and removed a modifier that used to make enemies more difficult while playing through the game.
The ‘invulnerable’ modifier would make certain enemies invincible to player attacks, causing progression issues as you’re hounded by an unkillable beast.
Path Of Exile’s 37th league is called Sentinel and combines every other major addition to the game on top of the new content. Sentinel features an optional robotic companion who will assist in battle but also raises the difficulty to earn better loot in battle.
However, the inclusion of a robot that makes things difficult isn’t the issue, as it’s the last league’s inclusion of the Archnemesis mechanic – which got some changes too – that has been causing the issue.
Archnemesis creates enemies that are much tougher than the game’s bosses and as they can share powers with a small mob that follows them, the modifier that made things invulnerable to damage was causing headaches at crucial points in the game.
Path of Exile 3.18.0c patch notes
In the 3.18.0c patch, Grinding Gear Games has admitted that the invulnerability was too much. It has since been replaced with Immunity, which instead of persisting will only be available for a short duration.
A common complaint from the Path Of Exile Reddit forums was that it made it impossible for any real fun to be had, as the amount of effort needed to kill enemies wasn’t worth it, and some players just opted to retreat instead of engaging with the monsters.
The patch also slows down Toxic Volatiles, enemies that will explode in a cloud of poisonous gas, so you’re not immediately swarmed.
The ability, mana siphoner, which drains you of your abilities’ power source, has had its visuals improved.
Also, monsters that cause Hasted and Arcane modifiers to increase speed and magic will now be found from level six.
Path Of Exile is free to play on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
